About WebIndexly

WebIndexly is an independent directory of 25,770 websites and online tools, sorted into 326 topics across 24 categories.

We built it for a simple moment: you know what you need to do — shrink an image, find an open dataset, replace an expensive app, learn to code — but you don't know which website does it well. Search engines show you whoever optimised hardest. We try to show you what's actually useful.

What you'll find here #

  • A page for every website. What it does, who it's for, the platforms it runs on, pricing when we know it, whether it's open source, and when we last checked that it works.
  • Alternatives and similar sites, matched by what the sites actually do — not by who paid.
  • Topic pages you can filter by price, platform and open source.
  • Best-of lists, comparisons and guides for the questions people ask most.

How the directory is built #

Every listing is a real website with a plain-language description, one clear topic and a set of tags. We check links on a schedule; sites that stop working are flagged and removed from listings until they're back. The details are public: read how we rank websites and our editorial policy.

What we don't do #

  • We don't sell rankings. If ads appear, they're labelled and kept apart from listings.
  • We don't make you sign up. Sites you save stay in your own browser.
  • We don't hide paid tools — but we label pricing when we know it, so free options are easy to find.

Who's behind it #

WebIndexly is run by a small independent team. Editorial work is led by Chris McClure, co-founder and editor, who writes about SEO, web architecture and the tools that make the web easier to use.

Help us improve it #

  • Know a great site we're missing? Submit it. Listings are free and every submission is reviewed by a person.
  • Spotted a mistake? Use Suggest an edit at the bottom of any listing.
  • Anything else? Get in touch.
