About African Journals OnLine

African Journals Online (AJOL) is a non-profit indexing platform for scholarly journals published in Africa. Since 1998 it has aimed to increase online access to, and the quality and use of, African-published peer-reviewed research. The homepage lists 980 journals, 23,670 issues, 298,430 abstracts and 291,653 full-text articles, with journals from 40 countries. Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Ethiopia have the most listed journals.

AJOL also assesses partner journals against a Journal Publishing Practices and Standards (JPPS) system and offers free technical and training services to African journals. Access to many articles is open or fee-free, but re-use or sharing of hosted abstracts and full-text articles is restricted unless the journal or copyright holder permits it. AJOL states that it depends on donations to operate.
