About Census of Agriculture

The Census of Agriculture is a program of the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service that provides a complete count of U.S. farms, ranches, and the people who operate them. It is conducted once every five years and covers land use and ownership, operator characteristics, production practices, income, and expenditures. It includes rural and urban plots growing fruit, vegetables, or food animals if $1,000 or more of products were raised and sold, or normally would have been sold, during the census year.

The site provides access to results such as the 2022 Census of Agriculture and archived census reports. Visitors can browse NASS reports by subject, date, title, or keyword, use the Quick Stats database to query by commodity, location, or time period, and use Quick Stats Lite for commonly requested statistics. It also offers county-level information and maps, charts, publications, instructional videos, and options to respond to surveys online and receive reports by email.
