About Compiler Explorer

Compiler Explorer is an interactive online compiler that shows assembly output for C++, Rust, Go and other code. It provides a source editor with execution using stdin and arguments, intermediate views such as LLVM IR, AST and preprocessor output, assembly filters, and a control flow graph with PNG and SVG export.

Some tools do not work with every language or compiler, and some languages have no libraries configured. The optional Claude Explain feature sends source code and compilation output to Anthropic, and does not run when the code contains a no-ai directive.

Key features

  • Shows assembly output for C++, Rust, Go and more
  • Executes code with custom arguments and stdin input
  • Displays intermediate outputs like LLVM IR, AST and preprocessor
  • Filters assembly by directives, comments, labels and library functions
  • Shows control flow graph with PNG and SVG export
  • Saves and loads code via browser storage, files and examples
Best for: Developers and students examining assembly output for C++, Rust, Go and other supported languages.
Good for
  • Covers C++, Rust, Go and additional languages in one interface
  • Provides multiple inspection views beyond assembly, including LLVM IR and AST
  • Allows local saving and loading through browser storage and files

Compiler Explorer FAQ

Does Claude Explain share my code?
Yes. It sends source code and compilation output to Anthropic, a third party, for explanation. The text states the data is not used to train their model and is covered by the Privacy Policy.
Why is AI explanation unavailable for my code?
If the source or included libraries contain the string no-ai, Compiler Explorer will not process it with AI.
Are my settings included in shared URLs?
No. Settings are not preserved as part of shared URLs and are persisted locally using browser local storage.
