About Deutsches Textarchiv

Deutsches Textarchiv (DTA) is a platform providing collections and corpora of German-language texts across disciplines and genres. Its core corpus contains around 1,500 titles, selected in a balanced way across text types, with a publication period from the early 17th to the early 20th century. A separate extension corpus adds about 4,000 digitized historical sources, mainly from the 17th to 19th centuries. The full texts are freely accessible and can be searched across the entire collection in a spelling-tolerant way using computational linguistic methods. Texts are prepared in the TEI-P5 DTABf format and can be viewed in a text-image view or downloaded. Analysis is possible through DWDS tools such as word frequency curves or DiaCollo, or via external tools like Voyant Tools and the Language Resource Switchboard. The DTA currently serves as a repository for structured historical texts within the NFDI consortium Text+ and supplies historical corpora for the Wortgeschichte digital dictionary project. Users can search 5,483 works. Downloadable texts are available under a Creative Commons license, while rights to displayed image digitizeds remain with the owning libraries.
