dhewm3 is a source port of the original Doom 3 game. It is not Doom 3 BFG. It runs on Windows, Linux, macOS, FreeBSD, OpenBSD and AROS, and on other systems that support OpenGL 1.4 with ARB shaders, SDL and OpenAL. Version 1.5.5, dated 2026-06-08, adds changes such as reduced microstutter and support for BC7-compressed texture files.
To play, you must legally own Doom 3 and supply its game data to dhewm3. Older mods work only if they do not require their own game DLL or have been ported to dhewm3.
