editorconfig
EditorConfig helps maintain consistent coding styles across different text editors through a shared file format.

About editorconfig
EditorConfig is a file format and a collection of text editor and IDE plugins for keeping coding styles consistent when multiple developers work on the same project. Style rules live in an .editorconfig file written in an INI format compatible with Python's configparser, using section names that are case-sensitive filepath globs similar to gitignore patterns. When a file is opened, plugins search the file's directory and every parent directory for .editorconfig files, stopping at the filesystem root or at a file containing root = true. Rules are read top to bottom, so properties in closer files take precedence. Files are meant to be human-readable and work well with version control. Support is not uniform: not all properties are supported by every plugin, and where a property is not specified, the editor's own settings apply.
Key features
- INI-style .editorconfig files compatible with Python configparser
- Case-sensitive filepath glob section names using , *, ?, [], {} patterns
- Plugins search the file's directory and parent directories for .editorconfig
- Properties for indent style and size, tab width, end-of-line, charset
- Properties for trimming trailing whitespace and inserting a final newline
- Rules read top to bottom with closer files taking precedence
- Files are easily readable and work nicely with version control systems.
- Rules in closer files and later sections take precedence, allowing per-directory overrides.
- Wildcard patterns match multiple files, directories and brace-expanded name sets.
- Not all properties are supported by every plugin.
- If a property is not specified, the editor's own settings apply and EditorConfig has no effect on that part.
