About Get Involved

This page explains how to contribute to KDE Connect, a project that lets devices communicate with each other. It covers contributions to design, usability, speed, and the number of platforms the software supports. Contributors can work on code for the Linux, Windows, macOS, Linux Mobile, Android, and iOS versions, or on non-programming tasks such as bug triage, translation, documentation, promotion, and wiki updates.

The page describes how to join the community through Matrix, Telegram, or the project mailing list, and how to submit patches on GitLab. It also notes that contributors work on the project in their free time, so reviews can take time and patches often need several rounds of changes. Building the iOS version for physical devices requires App Store team membership or an Apple entitlement, while simulators can be used for testing.

Get Involved FAQ

How do I submit a code change?
Patches are submitted on GitLab. Select the most relevant template, and you do not need to assign reviewers because the developers are subscribed to notifications.
Where can I ask questions before contributing?
You can ask questions in the KDE Connect Matrix channel (#kdeconnect:kde.org), on Telegram, or through the KDE Connect mailing list.
Do I need programming experience to contribute?
You need a basic understanding of programming concepts, and the rest can be learned by doing. Experience with Android or Qt is beneficial but not required. Tasks such as translation and bug triage do not require programming.
