About Glide

Glide is an open source model gateway that sits between an application and external model providers to handle tasks such as model failover, caching, and key management. It provides a unified REST API with a /chat endpoint that accepts a message and message history. It includes automatic fallbacks on provider failures, rate limits and transient errors, retries, centralized API key control and rotation, and metrics via OpenTelemetry. The project is under active development, and some items including Google Gemini chat, Anthropic streaming chat, and whitebox monitoring are listed as coming soon.

Key features

  • Unified REST API for chat across supported model providers
  • Automatic fallback on provider failures, rate limits, transient errors
  • Smart retries to reduce communication latency
  • Centralized API key control, management and rotation
  • Observability via OpenTelemetry with model health metrics
  • /chat endpoint accepting message and message_history
Best for: Developers building production generative AI applications that call multiple external LLM providers.
Good for
