About machine-learning-zoomcamp
Machine Learning Zoomcamp is a free, hands-on course on machine learning engineering, hosted as a GitHub repository by DataTalksClub. It covers the path from a machine learning problem to a deployed service: framing the problem, preparing data, training and evaluating models, exposing a model through an API, packaging it, and deploying it. The course uses Python, NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, FastAPI, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS Lambda.
The course can be taken in a live cohort or self-paced. The 2026 live cohort starts September 14, 2026. Its modules run from September through December, and the final projects conclude in January. Live cohort participation includes shared deadlines, scored homework, a leaderboard, peer review, and certificate eligibility. Lectures are pre-recorded in both formats. The self-paced option has unscored homework and no certificate eligibility. The deep learning modules use cloud resources for more intensive computation.
Key features
- Covers problem framing, data preparation, model training, evaluation, API exposure, and deployment
- Builds regression and classification models and evaluates them with appropriate metrics
- Trains tree-based and deep learning models using PyTorch and TensorFlow
- Deploys models as services using FastAPI, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS Lambda
- Live cohort adds scored homework, leaderboard, peer review, and certificate eligibility
- Self-paced option uses pre-recorded lectures and unscored homework
- The course is listed as free in both live cohort and self-paced formats.
- Students build end-to-end projects that take models to deployment, not only theory.
- No prior machine learning experience is required, according to the stated prerequisites.
- Requires at least one year of programming experience and comfort with the command line.
- Certificate eligibility, peer review, and the leaderboard apply only to the live cohort.
- Not a good fit for people seeking a non-technical introduction to AI or advanced research topics.
