Marquez
Marquez collects, aggregates, and visualizes metadata about a data ecosystem.

About Marquez
Marquez is an open source metadata service that collects, aggregates, and visualizes metadata about a data ecosystem. It records how datasets are produced and consumed, shows job runtime and how often datasets are accessed, and centralizes dataset lifecycle management. WeWork released the project. It is an LF AI & Data Foundation Graduated project and is under active development.
Marquez is set up with Docker, using a script from the repository, and collects dataset, job, and run metadata as OpenLineage events. The Web UI provides a lineage graph and run history. Limits: by default the HTTP API requires no authentication or authorization, the GraphQL endpoint is in beta, and macOS reserves port 5000, so an alternate port must be configured for local use there.
Key features
- Tracks provenance of how datasets are produced and consumed
- Shows job runtime and frequency of dataset access
- Lineage graph showing jobs and the datasets they produce and consume
- Web UI for viewing run metadata of current and previous job runs
- Collects dataset, job, and run metadata using OpenLineage events
- Docker startup script with optional build and sample metadata seeding
- Open source, with the code and documentation in a public GitHub repository
- LF AI & Data Foundation Graduated project
- Quickstart uses Docker and can load sample lineage metadata
- By default, the HTTP API does not require authentication or authorization
- The GraphQL endpoint is currently in beta
- Windows and macOS users need extra setup, such as a Git line-ending setting and an alternate API port on macOS
