Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals
OMIA catalogs inherited disorders in animals and provides tools to browse, search, and review related veterinary genetics resources.

About Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals
OMIA (Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals) is a catalogue of inherited disorders, other single-locus traits, and associated genes and variants across 795 mostly vertebrate animal species. It is maintained by the Sydney School of Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney. Entries are stored in a database with textual information, references, and links to external records such as PubMed, NCBI Gene, OMIM, Ensembl, Mondo Disease Ontology, and the Vertebrate Breed Ontology. The homepage includes a summary table of trait counts for key domesticated species, such as dog, taurine cattle, cat, and horse.
OMIA excludes human, mouse, rat, zebrafish, and western clawed frog, which have their own resources. The homepage describes OMIA as a free internet resource for over 30 years, with much of its curation done by volunteers, and asks visitors to consider donating to help cover maintenance, upgrades, and curation time. To report a suspected or confirmed inherited disease in Australian animals for surveillance, the homepage directs users to a separate resource, the Anstee Hub for Inherited Diseases in Animals (AHIDA).
