About Polyaxon

Polyaxon is an open-source platform for building, training, and monitoring large-scale deep learning applications. It handles workload orchestration through smart container and node management, and can turn GPU servers into shared, self-service resources for a team or organization. Deployment is Kubernetes-based: the CLI is installed with pip, and a deployment is created using Helm charts, either in your own data center, at a cloud provider, or hosted and managed by Polyaxon.

Key features

  • Container and node management for deep learning workloads on shared GPU servers
  • Experiment groups for hyperparameter search with grid, random, hyperband, Bayesian and Hyperopt methods
  • Distributed training examples for TensorFlow, PyTorch, MPI, Horovod, Spark and Dask
  • DAG engine for pipelines chaining jobs, services, distributed jobs and nested DAGs
  • CLI and dashboard for creating projects, running experiments and tracking logs
  • Kubernetes deployment via Helm charts, self-hosted or managed by Polyaxon
Best for: Machine learning teams that run large-scale deep learning on their own infrastructure and want orchestration, reproducibility and shared GPU resources under self-hosted Kubernetes.
Good for
  • Open-source repository with public code, charts, CLI and SDKs
  • Supports major deep learning frameworks and distributed training setups
  • Can be deployed in any data center, cloud provider, or hosted and managed by Polyaxon
Watch out for
  • Requires Kubernetes, Helm and CLI setup to create a deployment
  • Distributed jobs need the corresponding operator deployed and code adapted for distributed training
  • No pricing information is provided on the repository page

Polyaxon FAQ

Can Polyaxon be self-hosted?
Yes. It deploys into any data center or cloud provider, or it can be hosted and managed by Polyaxon. Installation uses the Polyaxon CLI plus Helm charts on a namespace such as polyaxon.
Does Polyaxon support distributed training?
Yes. The repository lists distributed TensorFlow, PyTorch, MPI, Horovod, Spark and Dask examples, though you need to deploy the corresponding operator, adapt your code and update your polyaxonfile.
What hyperparameter tuning methods are available?
Experiment groups define a search algorithm, search space and model. Listed methods include grid search, random search, Hyperband, Bayesian optimization, Hyperopt and custom iterative optimization.
