About Quakelike

Quakelike is a project that brings id Software's original Quake source code to the browser by compiling the original C engine to WebAssembly to run on GitHub Pages. It uses the shareware pak0.pak and adds procedurally generated levels, live palette effects with CRT scanlines and ASCII mode, in-browser PNG and GIF capture, SoundCloud music streaming, translation support, and console assistant hooks.

The browser port is in web/ and uses an SDL2 platform layer with the Emscripten SDK, with build and local HTTP run details in web/README.md. The repository also contains the sources for winquake, glquake, quakeworld, and glquakeworld. The code is licensed under the GNU General Public License, while the original Quake data files remain copyrighted and cannot be redistributed; local builds require supplying pak0.pak in web/id1/.
