About ticker
ticker is an open source command-line tool for watching stock, cryptocurrency, and derivatives prices and tracking positions in real time from a terminal. Users can start it with a watchlist of symbols, such as ticker -w NET,AAPL,TSLA, or save watchlists and positions in a configuration file.
Positions can be tracked with one or more cost basis lots per symbol, which the tool uses to show total gain or loss. Installation options include pre-compiled binaries, Homebrew, winget, Docker, Snap, and MacPorts. The MacPorts and other third-party packages are maintained by third parties and may not have the latest version. Quote timing is shown per quote through a delay tag, so the freshness of prices depends on the data source for each symbol. The Snap package cannot read dotfiles, so its config path must be set manually with --config.
