About Worldwide Governance Indicators Project

The Worldwide Governance Indicators Project publishes annual composite governance indicators for more than 200 economies from 1996 to 2025. It covers six dimensions — Voice and Accountability, Political Stability, Government Effectiveness, Regulatory Quality, Rule of Law, and Control of Corruption — using perception data from 35 cross-country sources, including household surveys, firm surveys, and expert assessments.

It provides governance estimates in standard statistical units and scores on an absolute 0–100 scale, with interactive data access and downloads in Excel and Stata, plus raw underlying source data and reproducibility materials. The scores are perception-based estimates intended for research, policy analysis, and government reflection, not as definitive criteria for credit ratings, investment risk, or other critical financial decisions.
