About APPLAUSE
APPLAUSE is an online archive of historical astronomical photographic plates from German observatories and other collections. It provides digitized plates, plate envelopes, observation logbooks, and related metadata for research. Data Release 4 includes material from 27 plate archives in Hamburg, Bamberg, Potsdam, Tautenburg, Tartu and Vatican Observatory.
You can browse sample images in the historical sky image gallery and viewer, and search the database through a query interface. The interface supports SQL queries and search forms, and can be used as a guest without signing in. Registered users can access processed plate data, including scans, exposures, astrometric solutions, photometric calibration, and extracted source detections with light curves.
The site suits researchers and students interested in long-term changes in stars and historical sky observations. It is also useful for anyone working with open astronomical datasets, logbook records, and catalog-matched source data.
