Bikel
Bikel maps cycling rides and turns them into shareable experiences through an open source decentralized tracker.

About Bikel
Bikel is a decentralized cycling tracker built on the Nostr network. It records rides as NIP-1301 fitness activity events linked to the rider's cryptographic identity, which can be used across different clients and relays. It includes an Android tracker with offline drafts and photo overlays, a web dashboard for maps, RSVPs and data exports, plus a relay and a bot for prize pools, scavenger hunts and bitcoin payments. Running the parts requires Docker, npm, and Android build steps.
Key features
- Passive ride tracking with photo overlays via React Native Android app
- Offline-first ride drafts with GPS polling and tail-trimming option
- Map dashboard with ride overlays, RSVPs, and CC0 data exports
- Scavenger hunts grouping multiple checkpoints into reward sets
- Sponsored checkpoints paying sats on 50-meter radius entry
- Self-hostable relay, web frontend, escrow bot, and APK components
- Ride data is tied to Nostr identity and usable across clients and relays
- Android tracker works without Google Play Services, including LineageOS and GrapheneOS
- Relay, web, backend, and APK are provided as separate self-hostable components
- APK sideloading requires the phone on the same WiFi network with USB or wireless debugging enabled
- Running the components requires Docker, Node/npm, and Expo/Gradle build steps
