About Esphome

ESPHome is a tool for turning supported microcontrollers, including ESP32, ESP8266, and RP2040 boards, into smart home devices. It creates the programming that runs on the chip to control connected sensors, switches, and displays. Devices work with Home Assistant over a local network without cloud accounts or external servers.

You can select a board and components using the visual Device Builder or a YAML configuration file, then install the configuration from a browser or wirelessly over WiFi. The site provides documentation, a Get Started guide, a device list of community-documented builds, and a desktop app for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Example community projects include doorbell notifications, e-ink displays, air quality sensors, and energy meters. An official Starter Kit with an ESP32 board, cables, and four sensor modules is also described.

It suits people who cannot find a needed device in stores and want to build sensors, switches, or displays from inexpensive components, including beginners who do not code and experienced users who prefer to write YAML.
