About GrimAC

GrimAC is an open-source anticheat plugin for Minecraft: Java Edition servers. It compares player actions against a per-player simulation of movement and world state, with latency and inventory compensation, and includes a developer API for integration with other plugins.

It supports Minecraft versions 1.8-1.21 and lists Paper, Spigot and Folia as currently supported, with Java 17 required. Bedrock players connecting through Geyser are fully exempt, and ViaVersion and Floodgate need to be on the backend server when used. The 2.0 open-source branch is described as feature-complete, with a subscription-based premium version planned for additional checks.

Key features

  • Simulates player movement including swimming, knockback, cobwebs and bubble columns
  • Tracks riding entities such as boats, pigs and striders
  • Maintains per-player world replica from chunk and block packets
  • Queues world changes until they reach player for latency compensation
  • Tracks player inventory to reduce errors at high latency
  • Provides developer API to integrate Grim into other plugins
Best for: Server operators running supported Paper, Spigot or Folia servers on Minecraft 1.8-1.21 who want an open-source anticheat.
Good for
  • Licensed GPL-3.0-or-later with source code available
  • Supports Minecraft versions 1.8 through 1.21
  • Movement checks run asynchronously on the netty thread
Watch out for
  • Requires Java 17
  • Bedrock players connecting through Geyser are fully exempt
  • Floodgate and ViaVersion must be on the backend server, not the proxy

GrimAC FAQ

Which Java version and server platforms are required?
Java 17 is required. The installation notes list Paper, Spigot and Folia as currently supported.
How does Grim handle Geyser/Bedrock players?
Geyser players are fully exempt. Place Floodgate on the backend server so Grim can exempt them; it cannot access Floodgate on a proxy.
Where should ViaVersion be installed?
ViaVersion should be on the backend server because movement handling depends on client version.
