About myaddr

myaddr.tools is a dynamic DNS service that provides a subdomain name and lets the owner update its DNS records through an HTTP API. A name can be claimed in seconds without an account. The claim returns a secret key, and whoever holds that key controls the name. The homepage describes the service as minimalist.

The Update API accepts GET, POST, and PUT requests, with parameters in the query string or in form-encoded or JSON bodies. It can set IPv4 or IPv6 addresses, or use the requester's address, and it supports ACME dns-01 challenges for TLS certificates from certificate authorities such as Let's Encrypt. Each IP address must be updated at least once every 90 days to stay active, and a registration with no updates for 120 days is deleted and its name released. The homepage states that no personal data is collected.

myaddr FAQ

What happens if I lose my secret key?
The secret key gives control over the name. If it is lost, the name is lost.
How often do I need to update my address?
Each IP address (IPv4 and IPv6) must be updated at least once every 90 days to stay active. If no updates are made to a name for 120 days, the registration is deleted and the name is released.
Can I use the service to get TLS certificates?
The service supports ACME dns-01 challenges, which can be used to obtain TLS certificates from certificate authorities such as Let's Encrypt. Challenge TXT records are removed automatically after a few minutes.
