About Openrocket

OpenRocket is a free model rocket simulator for designing rockets and simulating flight before building and flying. It offers built-in components including pods, staging options and varied fin shapes, with 3D visualization and plots of simulation results.

It provides six-degree-of-freedom simulation with staging and clustering support, and export to RockSim, RASAero II, OBJ and SVG formats. It does not collect telemetry or upload designs, but it makes network requests for update checks and user-requested online actions, which can be disabled in preferences.

Key features

  • Six-degree-of-freedom flight simulation
  • Automatic design optimization
  • Real-time simulated altitude, velocity, and acceleration display
  • Staging and clustering support
  • Export to RockSim and RASAero II formats
  • Export components to OBJ or SVG for manufacturing
Best for: People who design and simulate model rockets before building and flying them.
Good for
  • Free to use for rocket design and simulation

Openrocket FAQ

Does OpenRocket collect or upload my rocket designs?
No. It does not collect telemetry or upload designs. It makes network requests for checking application and motor-database updates, opening online resources, and submitting a bug report when requested. Internet access can be disabled in preferences.
What file formats can I export to?
It can export to RockSim and RASAero II, and export components to OBJ for 3D printing or SVG for laser cutting.
How can I learn to use OpenRocket?
Open one of the in-program example designs, then adjust component dimensions, plot a simulation, and swap out motors.
