About Pi Hole Optimized Blocklists

Pi-hole Optimized Blocklists is a GitHub repository of pre-built, deduplicated blocklists for Pi-hole. The lists are merged from curated upstream sources and community reports and split into categories: advertising, tracking, malware and phishing, suspicious domains, and NSFW (adult) content. A master list, all_domains.txt, combines everything except NSFW. The lists are rebuilt weekly by a scheduled GitHub Actions build. To use them, add the URL of each chosen list in the Pi-hole admin interface and update gravity.

Several limits apply. The NSFW list is not included in all_domains.txt and must be added separately. The ABP-format NSFW list and other ABP-style entries require Pi-hole Core 5.16 or later, or FTL 5.22 or later. Running pihole -q does not list the individual subdomains covered by an ABP entry. The repository is open source, and each upstream source list keeps its own licence.

Pi Hole Optimized Blocklists FAQ

How often are the lists updated?
They are rebuilt every Sunday by a GitHub Actions build scheduled for 00:00 UTC. GitHub often starts scheduled builds a few hours late. Community-reported domains are included once their pull request is merged, before the next run.
Which list should I use?
The FAQ recommends comprehensive.txt as a good balance for most users. all_domains.txt provides maximum blocking but may cause false positives. Individual category lists are available for granular control.
How does this differ from Zach's Lists?
This repository provides static, pre-built lists updated weekly. Zach's Lists adds custom source selection, smart whitelisting, and multiple output formats such as hosts, plain, and Adblock syntax. Both use the same underlying sources and are maintained by the same person.
