About Pinn

PINN is a version of the NOOBS Operating System Installer for the Raspberry Pi. It runs from an SD card and is used to install one or more operating systems on a Raspberry Pi. The SD card is prepared on a Windows, macOS, or Linux computer and then booted in the Pi.

PINN does not include any operating systems. Users must download them from the internet or provide them on a USB stick. The Pi needs an internet connection, either by Ethernet cable or by Wi-Fi, to list the available systems. Wi-Fi depends on the dongle, and some dongles are not supported.

Key features

  • Installs operating systems on a Raspberry Pi from an SD card
  • Displays a list of available operating systems to install after boot
  • Allows selection of one or more operating systems for installation
  • Connects to the internet over Ethernet or Wi-Fi during setup
  • Accepts operating systems supplied on a USB stick
  • Automatically resizes the recovery partition on first boot
Best for: Raspberry Pi users who want to install operating systems from an SD card-based installer.
