About PipePipe

PipePipe is an open-source Android app for browsing YouTube and other media services. It is a hard fork of NewPipe, started in early 2022, and is developed independently. The two projects no longer share updates, so issues and changes in one may not appear in the other. The app is licensed under GPL-3.0.

The app adds YouTube-specific options such as SponsorBlock segment skipping, restored dislike counts, and original titles. It also offers media features like danmaku-style live chat overlays, background music playback, and playlist downloads. Login is optional. According to the homepage, the login cookie is used only in scenarios the user configures under "Cookie Functions." For YouTube, the cookie is used only when retrieving playback streams.

Key features

  • Integrates SponsorBlock to skip sponsored segments on YouTube and BiliBili
  • Restores YouTube dislike counts using ReturnYouTubeDislike
  • Displays live chats as danmaku-style overlays during playback
  • Music player mode with background playback
  • Filters out items by keywords or channels, and can block shorts and paid videos
  • Downloads full playlists at once and sorts or searches local playlists and histories
