About Playlist Randomizer

Playlist Randomizer is a web tool that shuffles the track order of a Spotify playlist. The author built it because Spotify's shuffle playback did not give a fixed, saved order that the user wanted. After signing in with Spotify, the user selects a playlist, and the tool rewrites its track order.

The change is permanent. The tool cannot reverse it, so the user should confirm they have selected the correct playlist, and may want to copy the original playlist first. The tool does not keep a record of the previous order. Liked Songs cannot be shuffled because Spotify does not allow access to them. The page suggests copying Liked Songs into a new playlist and shuffling the copy. Errors may occur if too many requests are sent to Spotify.

Key features

  • Rewrites the track order of a Spotify playlist in a permanent way
  • Lists your Spotify playlists after you authenticate for selection
  • Displays a warning and requires confirmation before shuffling begins
  • Can store authentication information in a cookie if the user chooses
  • Revoke access through Spotify's Approved Applications settings
  • Provides troubleshooting steps such as clearing cookies and logging out
Best for: Spotify users who want a playlist's saved track order randomized, rather than relying on Spotify's shuffle playback.
Good for
  • Changes the saved order of a playlist, not only playback order
  • Users who have approved the app before are redirected back without reapproving
  • Access can be revoked from the Spotify profile settings
Watch out for
  • Shuffled track order cannot be undone by the tool
  • Liked Songs cannot be shuffled directly because Spotify does not allow it
  • Errors may be caused by too many requests sent to Spotify

Playlist Randomizer FAQ

Can I shuffle my Liked Songs?
Not directly. Spotify does not allow access to moving Liked Songs. The site suggests copying Liked Songs into a new playlist and shuffling that playlist.
What should I do after a playlist is randomized?
In Spotify, set the sort order to Custom order, turn off shuffle, and start playing from the first track, because the tool places the whole playlist in a new order.
Is my Spotify authentication information saved?
The site says it is not saved permanently unless the user chooses to store it in a cookie. Otherwise it is kept only for the session, and the user must authenticate again after the session ends. For randomized or reversed playlists, the site saves the user name, playlist name, playlist ID, and number of tracks.
