About Pychess Variants

Pychess Variants is an open-source server for playing chess variants, with a public instance at www.pychess.org. It uses Fairy-Stockfish, fairy-stockfish.wasm, and a fairyfishnet fork for move generation, validation, analysis and engine play, and uses chessgroundx for the client-side board.

Self-hosting requires MongoDB, with setup using Python and Node build steps or with Docker Compose on localhost:8080. It does not work on older browsers including Internet Explorer, and Fairy-Stockfish analysis may not work in all browsers.
