About siftrss

siftrss is a web tool that filters an Atom or RSS feed. You enter a feed URL, choose rules to include or exclude items based on their title, description, or link, and receive a link to a new feed containing only the matching items. Rules can test whether a field contains text, does not contain text, matches a regular expression, or exists or does not exist.

Filters use the Perl Compatible Regular Expressions (PCRE) flavor, with optional modifiers such as the i flag for case-insensitive matching. Plain-text filters are exact-match searches, so quotation marks are not needed unless the feed items themselves contain quotation marks. The homepage describes the tool as free, with no registration and no ads. Pricing is unknown.

Key features

  • Filters Atom or RSS feeds by item title, description, or link
  • Includes or excludes items using contains, exists, or regex rules
  • Supports PCRE regular expressions with optional modifiers such as i
  • Generates a new feed link containing only the filtered items
  • Partial regex matches, such as /conx?/ matching "Wisconsin"
Best for: People who follow RSS or Atom feeds and want to remove unwanted items using keyword or regular expression rules.

siftrss FAQ

How do I use siftrss?
Enter the URL of an RSS or Atom feed, select your filters, and the tool gives you a link to a new feed. You subscribe to that new link to see only the items you chose.
Do I need quotation marks around my filter text?
No. Plain filters are already exact-match searches. Include quotation marks only if you want the feed items to contain quotation marks.
What does the i flag do in a filter?
The i flag makes a regex match case-insensitive. For example, /hick/i matches "cHiCkEn", while /hick/ does not. The homepage suggests including the i flag if you are unsure.
