Skidl
SKiDL uses Python to design electronic circuits, with KiCad and schematics among the repository's listed topics.

About Skidl
SKiDL is a Python library for designing electronic circuits as code instead of in a schematic editor. A circuit is written as a Python program, and SKiDL outputs a netlist for PCB layout tools. The same source can also generate XML bills of materials, SVG or DOT diagrams, and editable KiCad schematics (KiCad 6 to 10). The source states that KiCad is the current output target and that other backends can be added.
SKiDL is free software released under the MIT license. Its source code is hosted on GitHub, and documentation is published at devbisme.github.io/skidl.
Key features
- Describe circuits as Python code that can be version-controlled with git
- Hierarchical design for nesting subcircuits into larger systems
- Reusable and parametric circuit modules shareable through PyPI and GitHub
- Electrical rules checking for unconnected pins, drive conflicts, and power errors
- Generate netlists, XML BOMs, SVG or DOT diagrams, and KiCad schematics
- SPICE integration for running simulations directly on SKiDL circuits
- Circuit descriptions can be diffed, branched, and reviewed like other source code.
- One description can produce netlists, BOMs, diagrams, and KiCad schematics.
- Free and open source under the MIT license.
- Editable schematic output currently targets KiCad, with other backends stated only as possible future additions.
- Full KiCad symbol library access requires setting the KICAD_SYMBOL_DIR variable, which the source describes as optional but recommended.
