About Space Finder

Spacefinder is a web-based tool for browsing venues, providing detailed space descriptions, filters based on space characteristics, and navigation via an interactive map. It was originally developed by the University of Cambridge in 2015 as part of the futurelib innovation programme, which explored the future role of academic libraries within the university. Open-source versions of the tool have been released under the Apache 2.0 license: a 2022 Ruby on Rails version from the University of Cambridge, and a 2023 single-page application rewrite from the University of Leeds Library that uses JSON data feeds instead of a Rails API. The site is partially compliant with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards, with known limitations for assistive technology users navigating the interactive maps.
