About SSHADE

SSHADE is a solid spectroscopy database infrastructure that provides spectral and photometric data from laboratory, field, and extraterrestrial samples. It supports searching spectra, band lists, publications, and experimental datasets across specialized databases from research groups, mostly in Europe.

Coverage spans gamma to radio wavelengths, including X, UV, visible, IR, and mm ranges. Samples include ices, minerals, rocks, organic and carbonaceous materials, liquids, and materials such as meteorites, IDPs, and lunar soils. It can also be searched through the Virtual European Solar and Planetary Access (VESPA) virtual observatory.

Key features

  • Search spectra across hosted specialized databases
  • Search band lists, including Raman mineral band lists
  • Find experimental datasets with sample and measurement details
  • Covers gamma to radio wavelengths through X, UV, Vis, IR, mm
  • Includes ices, minerals, rocks, organics, liquids and extraterrestrial samples
  • Searchable through VESPA virtual observatory
Best for: Researchers who need laboratory or planetary solid spectroscopy spectra, band lists, and experimental data.
Good for
  • Interoperable infrastructure combining specialized databases from various research groups
  • Coverage from gamma to radio wavelengths using various spectroscopic techniques
