About Style Stage

Style Stage is a showcase of community-made CSS designs. Every design restyles the same base HTML page, so visitors can compare how different stylesheets change the look of identical content. Visitors open the "All Styles" directory and select a style to view it. Contributors submit a stylesheet to be added to the collection.

The base HTML is semantic and accessible and carries few presentational opinions. Contributors cannot change that markup, so they work through nested sections with the class .container, IDs for navigation anchors, and a few extra classes. The project is based on the earlier CSS Zen Garden project, which accepted submissions until 2013. Submissions must follow published guidelines covering responsive design, accessible contrast checks, reduced motion, and a page load time of no more than 3 seconds. Style Stage is maintained by Stephanie Eckles of ModernCSS.dev.

  • Stylesheets that violate the guidelines may be removed, and attribution depends on the site staying online and asset links remaining valid.
