About THREDDS Data Server
The THREDDS Data Server (TDS) is a web server that provides metadata and data access for scientific datasets using OPeNDAP, OGC WMS and WCS, HTTP, and other remote access protocols. It is part of Unidata's THREDDS project to give students, educators and researchers access to real-time and archived environmental datasets from distributed server sites.
It uses dataset inventory catalogs to list data and metadata, reads NetCDF, OpenDAP, HDF5, GRIB and NEXRAD files through the Netcdf-Java Common Data Model, and supports virtual aggregations with NcML, coordinate subsetting, and ISO metadata generation. WMS, WCS and subsetting work only for certain datasets, including gridded data with complete coordinate information, and deployment requires Java and a servlet container such as Tomcat.
