About TikTok-Chat-Reader

TikTok-Chat-Reader is a demo web application that displays chat comments, gifts and other events from a TikTok LIVE stream in real time. It builds on the TikTok-Live-Connector library and an unofficial TikTok API, then uses Socket.IO to forward events from a Node.js server to the browser client.

Key features

  • Displays TikTok LIVE chat comments and gifts in real time
  • Forwards live events to browser clients through Socket.IO
  • Built on the TikTok-Live-Connector library and an unofficial TikTok API
  • Runs locally with Node.js: npm i, then node server.js
  • Static index.html can fall back to the demo site's backend for testing
Best for: Developers who want a working starting point for showing TikTok LIVE chat and gift events in their own Node.js application.
Good for
  • Includes step-by-step local installation instructions for Node.js
  • Can be tested without running your own backend by opening index.html
  • Retrieves chat comments, gifts and other LIVE events in one stream
Watch out for
  • Relies on an unofficial TikTok API that the project does not control
  • Described as a demo; public or high-traffic use is expected to run on your own server

TikTok-Chat-Reader FAQ

How do I run TikTok-Chat-Reader locally?
Install Node.js, clone or download the repository, run npm i in the project root, start the app with node server.js, and open http://localhost:8091 in your browser.
Can I try it without starting the server?
Yes. Opening index.html from the public folder uses the demo site's backend, which the project says is sufficient for testing purposes.
What should I do if many people will connect at once?
The project advises using your own server rather than the demo backend if you offer the tool to others or expect many simultaneous connections.
