About VRCOSC

VRCOSC is an open source application that wraps VRChat's OSC system to make OSC programs easier to build. It is installed by running VRCOSCSetup.exe from the latest releases. Users enable the modules they want and press run. The project also provides a framework for writing new modules, which other users can run on their own PCs.

The application combines a custom node-programming language called Pulse, a ChatBox animation system, per-avatar profiles, a built-in router, and common API interfaces. Its official modules cover media display, speech-to-text, voice commands, heart rate, SteamVR statistics, and PiShock control, among others. Some modules connect to external services or require supported devices, and the source does not describe how those services handle data.

Key features

  • Pulse node-programming language for custom behaviour without writing a module
  • ChatBox animation system for displaying configurable text in VRChat
  • Per-avatar profiles
  • Built-in router and common API interfaces
  • Official modules for media, speech-to-text, voice commands, and heart rate
  • Drag-and-drop Unity prefabs for adding first-party features to avatars
Best for: VRChat users and avatar creators who want to connect avatar parameters to speech, media, APIs, or other outside data using modules or node programming.
Good for
  • Open source and licensed under the GNU General Public License V3
  • Modules can be shared so other users can run them on their own PCs
  • Official modules send standardised parameters that public avatars can use
Watch out for
  • The ChatBox uses a community-created list that blocks it in certain worlds; this can be turned off in app settings
  • Some modules depend on external services or supported devices, such as Pulsoid and HypeRate
  • Other libraries included in the project may be licensed differently from the main program
