About wayscriber

wayscriber is a live screen annotation tool for Linux Wayland, written in Rust. A keybind places a drawing layer over any application for annotating, presenting, zooming and capturing, which can then be hidden with Esc. It includes a pen, highlighter, shapes, text, boards with pages, zoom with lock and pan, OCR text copy, and screen capture with PDF export. It supports Hyprland, Sway, River, Wayfire, Niri, COSMIC and KDE Plasma, with limits on GNOME, and light passthrough requires a layer-shell compositor.

Key features

  • Keybind toggles drawing layer over any application
  • Pen, highlighter, eraser, shapes, arrows and text
  • Multiple boards with separate pages and backgrounds
  • Zoom with lock, pan and live percentage chip
  • Capture screen, window or region to clipboard or PNG
  • Export boards as multi-page PDF files
Best for: Linux Wayland users who annotate their screen during presentations, demos and teaching.
