About Aer

Aer is a private local storage utility for Android and a fork of Anemo. It focuses on using the app's private location on external storage such as an SD card, and falls back to internal storage when no external storage exists.

It works through Android system components rather than as a separate file manager interface, and can save content exported from other apps. Files in its private storage do not appear in other apps, and access is provided through the system Files app with password locking options.

Key features

  • Store files in private location on external storage
  • Fall back to internal storage without external storage
  • Create folders and organize files freely
  • Access files through system Files application
  • Lock storage with password and auto-lock delay
  • Import content using Android share functionality
Best for: Android users who want separate local storage for files that other apps cannot see.
Good for
  • Open-source code licensed under GPL-3.0
  • Supports external storage with fallback to internal storage
  • Can be installed and used alongside Anemo
Watch out for
  • Focused external-storage use needs external storage; otherwise uses internal storage
