About Tracker Control Android

TrackerControl for Android monitors and controls the tracking and advertising data collection that apps carry out in the background. It uses Android's VPN functionality to analyse network traffic on the device. According to the project, it does not require root access, does not use an external VPN server by default, and does not intercept SSL connections. Only metadata about network communications is logged and shown to the user. It identifies trackers using the Disconnect blocklist, the DuckDuckGo Tracker Radar, an in-house blocklist, and Exodus Privacy signatures for tracker libraries inside app code. Users can see the companies and countries behind tracking, and the purposes of tracking such as analytics or advertising.

The Play Store version (Slim) offers tracker analysis, traffic logging, minimal tracker and ad blocking, secure DNS, and remote VPN routing. The F-Droid and GitHub version (Full) adds three blocking modes, granular per-tracker control, and a wider set of blocklists. The project states that no app can give 100% protection and that analysis results may be inaccurate. It also says a feature-reduced iOS version, offering tracker analysis without blocking, is in development.

Key features

  • Real-time monitoring of app tracking, including destination companies and countries
  • Tracker library analysis of app code using Exodus Privacy signatures
  • Three blocking modes (Minimal, Standard, Strict) in the Full version
  • Granular per-tracker blocking control in the Full version
  • One-click data requests under EU data-protection law
  • Optional secure DNS over HTTPS and remote VPN routing through providers such as Mullvad and IVPN
Best for: Android users who want to see which companies are tracking them through apps and limit that tracking, especially those who can install the Full version from F-Droid or GitHub.
