AG2 is an open-source programming framework for building AI agents and enabling cooperation among multiple agents to solve tasks. It supports use of various large language models, tool use, autonomous and human-in-the-loop workflows, and multi-agent conversation patterns. As of v1.0, this repository provides the protocol-driven framework imported as ag2 and requires Python 3.10 or newer. The original AutoGen-derived code with import autogen and classes such as ConversableAgent and GroupChat is now maintained separately as AG2 Classic.

How do I install AG2?
AG2 requires Python 3.10 or newer and is available as ag2 on PyPI. Install with pip install ag2[openai] on Windows/Linux or pip install 'ag2[openai]' on Mac, using the extra that matches your model provider.
Where are ConversableAgent, GroupChat, or import autogen?
Those belong to AG2 Classic, now in the separate ag2ai/ag2-classic repository. Install it with pip install ag2-classic instead of ag2>=1.0.
How do I provide API keys?
Each provider configuration reads its standard environment variable, for example export OPENAI_API_KEY, so keys do not need to be hardcoded.
