About CFDTool

CFDTool is a computational fluid dynamics toolbox based on FEATool Multiphysics for fluid dynamics and coupled heat transfer simulation. It provides a graphical interface for setup, solving, and analysis, with support for a built-in solver as well as the OpenFOAM and SU2 solvers, and allows a model defined once to be used with different solvers.

It includes CAD geometry modeling, automatic mesh generation, and postprocessing and visualization tools, with export to MATLAB, CSV, GMV, and VTK formats and to ParaView Glance and Plotly web plots. MATLAB integration for custom scripts and functions is optional, and dedicated technical support is available as an add-on to limited free forum support.

Key features

  • Built-in support for OpenFOAM, SU2, and built-in CFD solvers
  • Define model once and run with interchangeable solvers
  • Enter nonlinear expressions as written without programming
  • CAD tools with STEP, IGES, STL, and OBJ import and export
  • Automatic unstructured mesh generation with external generator support
  • Postprocessing with export to MATLAB, CSV, GMV, and VTK
Best for: Students and beginners learning basic fluid dynamics or heat transfer modeling, and researchers and engineers who want to avoid manual solver setup and syntax.
Good for
  • Same model can be run with different solvers for testing and validation
  • Combines geometry modeling, mesh generation, solving, and postprocessing in one toolbox
  • Expressions and coefficients can be entered as written without learning solver syntax
Watch out for
  • Limited free support is available only via the public community forum
  • Dedicated developer support requires an additional licensing option
  • MATLAB integration is described as optional, not included by default

CFDTool FAQ

Which solvers can CFDTool use?
It supports a built-in solver as well as the OpenFOAM and SU2 solvers, and a model can be run with the solvers interchangeably.
Is programming required to define models?
No. Nonlinear expressions and coefficients can be entered as written on paper without learning solver syntax.
Does CFDTool work with MATLAB?
Optional integration supports calling user-defined m-file scripts, solvers, and custom functions for material, boundary, and postprocessing coefficients.
