Contexto
The Contexto project provides a context engine designed for long running AI agents.

About Contexto
Contexto is an open-source context engine for long-running AI agents. It is a plugin that runs inside OpenClaw and hermes-agent, the two agent frameworks it supports today. Its stated purpose is to keep early instructions and constraints retrievable after a long session's context window fills and older turns are compacted.
Instead of collapsing older conversation into summaries, Contexto stores full episodes and retrieves only the context relevant to the current turn. It groups related topics through semantic clustering and can show the retrieval path it used. Setup requires installing the plugin and setting one configuration key. Managed hosting is available, so users do not have to run retrieval infrastructure themselves. A fully local setup is also described, using the user's own OpenAI or OpenRouter key. The source states that Contexto is not intended for one-shot chats or very short sessions.
Key features
- Plugin that runs inside OpenClaw and hermes-agent
- Stores full conversation episodes instead of lossy summaries
- Retrieves earlier constraints after context compaction
- Semantic clustering that keeps separate topics distinct
- Shows explainable retrieval paths for retrieved context
- Managed hosting option, or a fully local setup
- Aims to keep important constraints retrievable after long sessions and compaction
- Open source
- Managed hosting is available, so users do not need to run retrieval infrastructure
- Not intended for one-shot chats or very short sessions
- Built for OpenClaw and Hermes today; no other frameworks are named
- Managed setup requires an API key from getcontexto.com; a local setup requires an OpenAI or OpenRouter key
