About ELKI

ELKI is a Java-based data mining software for research, with emphasis on unsupervised methods for cluster analysis and outlier detection. It provides data index structures such as the R*-tree and a collection of highly parameterizable algorithms for evaluation and benchmarking.

Algorithms and data management are kept separate, and the framework works with different data types, distance or similarity measures, and file formats. It is designed to be extended by researchers and students, and is distributed under the AGPLv3 license with source code.

Key features

  • Cluster analysis and outlier detection algorithms in Java
  • Data index structures such as R*-tree for scalability
  • Highly parameterizable algorithms for evaluation and benchmarking
  • Support for arbitrary data types, distances and file formats
  • Separation of algorithms and data management tasks
  • Available via download, GitHub and Maven with source code
Best for: Researchers and students working on clustering, outlier detection, and algorithm evaluation.
Good for
  • Source code available under AGPLv3 license
  • Collection of parameterizable algorithms for evaluation and benchmarking
  • Works with different data types, distances and file formats
Watch out for
  • Focused on unsupervised methods such as clustering and outlier detection
  • Scientific publications using ELKI are asked to cite the release publication
  • Cross-platform benchmarking is discouraged because results can mislead
