About FediFetcher

FediFetcher is a script that pulls missing posts into a Mastodon instance using the Mastodon API. It fetches remote replies to posts already on the server, such as replies to posts users have replied to, and replies to items in the home timeline, bookmarks, favourites or lists. It can also backfill profiles, fetching missing posts from users who recently appeared in notifications, were recently followed, recently followed you, sent a follow request, or were added to your lists. Each part is configurable and can be disabled. It runs as a GitHub Action, a scheduled cron job, a pre-packaged container, or from Windows Task Scheduler, and does not require CLI or SSH access to the Mastodon server. Fetched posts and profiles are stored on disk so they are not re-fetched in later runs. Long runtimes are possible, particularly on the first run or when all parts are enabled, and overlapping executions should be prevented.

FediFetcher FAQ

Which servers can FediFetcher run against?
It uses the Mastodon API, so it runs against any instance implementing that API. It was built for Mastodon and has been confirmed working against Pleroma as well.
Where can FediFetcher pull posts and profiles from?
It pulls from servers running software that implements the Mastodon API (Mastodon, Pleroma, Akkoma, Pixelfed, Hometown, Iceshrimp, Iceshrimp.NET), the Misskey API (Misskey, Calckey, Firefish, Foundkey, Sharkey), Lemmy and Peertube.
Does FediFetcher need to be installed on the Mastodon server?
No. It can be run as a GitHub Action without a server or other hardware, as a cron job, as a container, or from Windows Task Scheduler, and none of these require CLI or SSH access to the Mastodon server.
