About GabiPD

GabiPD is a web database (listed on the homepage as the PlaBi dataBase, run under the PPD project) that provides sequence data for protein-coding genes in selected crop plants and the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. The crop plants named on the homepage include sugar beet, grapevine, rapeseed (canola), potato, maize, barley, bread wheat and false flax. Arabidopsis is included as a reference.

For these genes, the site lists protein sequences, cDNA sequences and genomic sequences, with about 1800 bp of 5'-UTR and 300 bp of 3'-UTR in the genomic sequences. Conserved protein domains from PFAM 33.1 are shown. A JBrowser genome browser is available for some of the plants. The homepage does not state usage limits, access restrictions or whether the data can be downloaded.

Key features

  • Protein, cDNA and genomic sequences for protein-coding genes
  • Conserved protein domains from PFAM 33.1 shown with sequences
  • JBrowser genome browser for some plants, from chromosome to gene level
  • Protein clusters from MCL to find orthologous proteins across plants
  • Coverage of eight crop plants with Arabidopsis thaliana as reference
Best for: Researchers who need protein, cDNA and genomic sequence data for protein-coding genes in the listed crop plants or Arabidopsis thaliana.
Good for
  • Provides three sequence types for each covered protein-coding gene
  • Includes Arabidopsis thaliana as a reference plant alongside crop species
  • Offers protein family clusters to help identify orthologous proteins across the listed plants
Watch out for
  • The genome browser is available for some of the plants only
  • Sequence data covers protein-coding genes only
  • The homepage describes the current implementation as focused on a set of crop plants, so coverage may change
