About Integrated Interactions Database

The Integrated Interactions Database (IID) is an online database of detected and predicted protein-protein interactions (PPIs) in 18 species, including human, 5 model organisms, and 12 domesticated species. Users search by gene or protein identifiers and organism, then build networks around a query protein, its partner proteins, or complexes. The database combines experimentally detected interactions from 10 curated databases, orthologous interactions, and predictions from computational methods. Interactions are annotated with conditions where they occur, such as tissues and developmental stages, and users can adjust the evidence types included in results.

The network view displays a dense subgraph of up to 50 nodes, so it does not show every interaction at once. The full interaction dataset is available for download. Statistical significance is not calculated for evidence types or for attributes of complexes. Pricing is unknown.

Key features

  • Search protein interactions by gene or protein identifier and organism
  • Build networks around query proteins, partner proteins, or complexes
  • Covers 18 species, including human and 12 domesticated species
  • Human context-specific networks for 120 tissues, including brain and joint tissues
  • Filter interactions by tissue, subcellular localization, disease, or druggability
  • Download the full interaction dataset and per-species PPI files
Best for: Researchers who study protein-protein interactions in the listed species, particularly those who need tissue-specific or context-specific networks.
Good for
  • Combines experimental, orthologous, and predicted interactions in one database
  • Provides context-specific human networks for 120 tissues
  • Full interaction dataset can be downloaded
Watch out for
  • Network visualization shows a dense subgraph of up to 50 nodes only
  • Statistical significance is not calculated for evidence types or complex attributes
  • Some species list no experimental interactions, such as alpaca, cat, and duck

Integrated Interactions Database FAQ

Which species are included?
IID includes 18 species: human, 5 model organisms (fly, mouse, rat, worm, and yeast), and 12 domesticated species (alpaca, chicken, cat, cow, dog, duck, guinea pig, horse, pig, rabbit, sheep, and turkey).
Can the interaction data be downloaded?
Yes. The site states that the full interaction dataset is available for download, and per-species PPI data files with readme files are listed on the homepage.
Does the database calculate statistical significance?
Analysis tools are provided, but the site states that significance is not calculated for evidence types or for attributes of complexes.
