About Gesturefy

Gesturefy is an open source add-on for Firefox that lets users run browser commands by moving the mouse in a set pattern while holding a mouse button. It is designed only for mice and does not work with touchpads. It includes more than 80 predefined commands, special commands such as popup, user script, multi-purpose, and cross add-on commands, and rocker and wheel gestures. The gesture trace and status display can be customized.

The add-on has several limits. It does not work on Mozilla pages such as addons.mozilla.org, on internal pages such as about:addons, or on other add-on option pages, because Firefox restricts add-ons from accessing them. Gestures need the page to be partially loaded. Wheel gestures do not work on macOS Sierra. The add-on requires permission to access data on all websites, because its gesture code runs in every page. The project states that it does not collect data, has no home server, and includes no analytics or telemetry code. GitHub hosts the source code, and GitHub is not affiliated with the project.

Gesturefy FAQ

Does Gesturefy work with a touchpad?
No. The project describes Gesturefy as a pure mouse gesture extension, suited only for mice and not touchpads.
Why does Gesturefy need access to data on all websites?
The complete gesture functionality is injected into every webpage, so part of the code runs in each tab. The project says this is needed to track mouse movement, draw on the screen, and perform page-specific commands such as scrolling.
Can Gesturefy be used on addons.mozilla.org?
No. Gesturefy does not work on addons.mozilla.org, about:addons, or other add-on option pages, because Firefox restricts add-ons from accessing these pages for security reasons.
