About gridplayer

GridPlayer is a VLC-based desktop player that plays multiple videos at the same time in a configurable grid layout. It supports video and audio formats supported by VLC and streaming URLs through streamlink and yt-dlp, with cookie support for streams that need login. Playlists can be saved with per-video position, volume, loops, and aspect ratio.

The number of simultaneous videos is limited by hardware. Installation options include Scoop on Windows, Flathub and AppImage on Linux, a DMG for Apple Silicon Macs, and installation with UV, which requires Python 3.10 or later and a separate VLC installation.

gridplayer FAQ

What is required to install GridPlayer with UV?
Python 3.10 or later and VLC installed on Windows and Mac, or the vlc package on Linux.
How do I open the macOS app if it is blocked?
Add an exception for an unsigned app. If macOS reports GridPlayer is damaged, run sudo xattr -rd com.apple.quarantine /Applications/GridPlayer.app in Terminal.
Can I change where settings and logs are stored?
Yes. Use gridplayer --user-data-dir PATH or set GP_USER_DATA_DIR. The command-line option takes precedence.
