About HoloISO

HoloISO is a free/libre reimplementation of SteamOS 3 that aims to bring the Steam Deck's SteamOS Holo redistribution into a generic, installable format for more PCs. It reproduces SteamOS features such as the first-boot OOBE, Deck UI and gamepad UI sessions, Global FSR, shader pre-caching, and A/B system updates with container sealing. On Steam Deck hardware it also adds firmware and dock updaters, thumbstick and haptic motor calibration, amplifier support, fan curve control, and TDP/clock control.

Key features

  • Installable generic format of SteamOS 3 with Steam Deck UI
  • SteamOS out-of-box experience and separate Deck UI/gamepad UI sessions
  • Global FSR and shader pre-caching
  • A/B system updates with container sealing
  • Native SteamOS addons and core components such as steamos-readonly
  • On Steam Deck: dock, BIOS, controller, OS firmware updaters and controller calibration
Best for: Users with AMD GPUs supporting RADV who want a free/libre, generic SteamOS 3-like system on a PC.
Good for
  • Free/libre reimplementation of SteamOS 3, with most code and packages from Valve.
  • Includes SteamOS OOBE, Deck UI, Global FSR, shader pre-caching, and A/B updates.
  • On Steam Deck, provides firmware updaters, controller calibration, fan curve, and TDP/clock control.
Watch out for
  • Not official SteamOS; the project describes it as an unofficial reimplementation.
  • TDP/FPS limiting is disabled on all systems except Steam Deck and Steam Deck OLED.
  • NVIDIA support is not provided now in favor of NVK testing; AMD 7xxx requires testing, and some CPU 7xxx users report an inoperable experience.
