About Maestral

Maestral is a Dropbox client for macOS and Linux, offered as a lightweight graphical app and a command-line tool. The CLI shows sync status and activity, restores previous file versions and creates or revokes shared links. The GUI provides a native Cocoa interface on macOS and a Qt interface on Linux. Multiple Dropbox accounts can be configured, and local files or folders can be excluded from syncing through selective sync or .mignore patterns in the Dropbox root. Because Maestral is not an official Dropbox app, linked devices do not count toward the three-device limit on Dropbox Basic accounts. As of June 2026, Maestral is no longer actively maintained; the current version is expected to keep working until certificates expire.
