About Rolling Deck to Repository

Rolling Deck to Repository (R2R) is a program that manages underway data collected by research vessels during expeditions. It catalogs the underway environmental sensor data and submits it to long-term public archives, including the NOAA National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI). Data from each cruise are submitted directly to R2R by the vessel operator rather than by the science party. The homepage reports 50 vessels, 10,301 research cruises, 64,603 archived data sets and 25,138,454 downloadable files.

R2R provides documentation and standard products for each expedition, along with tools for recording shipboard data acquisition activities while a vessel is underway. Post-cruise quality assessment covers selected underway data types and is designed to evaluate data completeness, documentation and instrument operation. Quality assessment of underway meteorological data is run in near-real-time in partnership with the SAMOS program at Florida State University.

Key features
